Welcome to the Our Pets blog. We have so many phone calls from people asking for guidance on any number of subjects – from what breed is best with children to how can I make my website first in Google, that we thought the time had come to put all our thoughts in one place where everyone can share them.

For over 20 years we have run a boarding kennels and cattery, bred and shown dogs and cats and, for the last 7 years seen our websites do extremely well in the Search Engines, giving a lot of pet businesses the best value advertising they could dream of.
We spend some time every day on the Google Webmasters Help Forum, giving posters guidance on why they are having problems with their websites, and at the same time learning a great deal what’s new in Google, what is likely to cause your site to be penalised and what Google loves and will help websites succeed.
We’d like to share all of this with you, giving anyone who wishes to access to all sorts of information we have gathered over the years.
Working with Dogs Every Day
We spend our days with dogs, our own and other peoples, and answer endless questions from callers about their pet’s behaviour and problems. Hopefully, sharing our experience with you will help solve some problems and prevent mistakes being made – look at our recent blog on the Cameroon puppy scam. This has been operating for well over a year and must have defrauded many people, judging by the phone calls I receive about it.

I speak to kennel owners every day, and probably have a better understanding of what is working and what isn’t all across the UK. From advertising to kennel opening hours, we have a real insight into the business and will be sharing those insights – helping kennel owners to build their profits – in the days and weeks to come.

We are all very dependent on our vets to help our dogs when things go wrong – but are they sometimes profit-driven rather than simply looking after the best interests of the dog? They are a business, and an expensive business to operate, profit is important. We explore where this works against the interests of the owners – and sometimes dogs.
Behavioural and Health Problems
This is an area we will explore and try and give you some simple solutions – the bad news is that most behavioural problems are the result of inappropriate management, so to change the dog owners need to change themselves. The most visible health problem is dog obesity and the most easily remedied.
Others such as excessive barking, dogs eating their own faeces will also be addressed in later posts.
